Whale and dolphin watching cruises
Among the most popular programs in Tenerife are dolphin and whale watching cruises, which depart from the port of Los Gigantes, a 2-minute walk from our apartment. Countless tour operators offer 2-3 hour programs here, with yachts, catamarans, sailing boats or even pirate ships. It's a fantastic experience to meet pilot whales, bottlenose and humpback whales in their natural habitat. with dolphins, turtles. Often there are schools of Atlantic spotted dolphins, various flying fish, but we can also meet blue whales or orcas.

Teide excursion and night stargazing
Teide is one of the most beautiful natural wonders of the world, its 3718- meter peak is the highest point in Spain and the Atlantic Ocean; measured from its base, it is 7500 m, making it the highest volcano in the world after the Hawaiian Islands. The Teide National Park, which covers an area of 18,990 hectares and includes Pico Viejo and Montana Blanca, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most visited national park in Europe. The Teide Observatory is located at 2390 meters. From the top of the volcano, there is a stunning panorama of the Canary Islands, which can be reached by cable car, and the last 300 meters can only be climbed with a permit. Don't miss the night stargazing tours, where the wonderful dimensions of the universe are revealed to us thanks to the zero light pollution.
TIP: Bring warm clothes with you, because due to the large difference in altitude it can be up to 15 degrees cooler than on the coast. +1 TIP: Don't even set off on a scooter!
Masca
This picturesque little village is located in the western part of Tenerife, in the embrace of the Teno mountains, with traditional Canarian architecture and a stunning location. One of the most beautiful villages in Tenerife, away from the tourist beaches, a real gem among the clouds, from which you can enjoy stunning views of the ocean and the gorge. Popular hiking trails start from here, which lead through the valley all the way to the coast. From there, you can return to Los Gigantes by motorboat. These excursions are worth taking with a tour guide. The interesting thing about the Masca Valley is that, according to legend, pirates hid their treasures here. Let me know if you find it!
TIP: Get information before you set off by car, because during peak times there are a lot of tourists visiting this location and in addition to the winding serpentine roads, parking can also be a challenge!


Loro Park - The best zoo in the world
This world-famous zoo is located in Puerto de La Cruz, in the north of Tenerife. It is a unique place where we can see more than 400 different animal species. It also has the world's largest parrot collection and penguinarium. Entering the tropical sanctuary, we can feel like we are in a special oxygen tent thanks to the exotic plants and the jungle-like environment. The park also has world-class orca, dolphin and seal shows. Loro Park has been around for over 50 years, and its exemplary efforts in the field of saving endangered species and scientific research have been recognized worldwide. Loro Park boasts countless records and international recognition.

The Thousand-Year-Old Dragon Tree
In the northwest of Tenerife, in Icod de los Vinos, a living national monument is located. The symbol of Tenerife is the 18-meter-high thousand-year-old dragon tree, the Drago Milenario, which is the oldest dragon tree on Earth. Its age is actually estimated at 5-800 years, and its trunk has a circumference of 20 meters. Its dimensions can best be admired from the park built around it. The park also houses the impressively atmospheric San Marcos Church, built in the 15th century. The town also has a doll museum, a banana museum and a butterfly house. The nearby San Marcos beach is mainly visited by locals. It is also home to the Cueva del Viento, Europe's longest volcanic tunnel system, which is over 17 kilometres long and hides special geological formations and stalactite formations. TIP: If you can, plan a full day of activities!


Tenerife's most beautiful golden sandy beach
The northern coast is completely different from the other beaches in Tenerife. Playa de Las Teresitas is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, with a golden sandy beach 1.5 kilometres long, for which the sand was brought here from the Sahara in the 1970s. The beach offers luxurious services to meet all needs, a real bathing paradise, where the water deepens slowly and is protected from waves, making it ideal for families with small children. The beach is located in San Andres, 8 km from the capital of Tenerife - Santa Cruz de Tenerife - and if you continue on the serpentine road, it is worth stopping and admiring the surrounding volcanic hills from the Mirador Las Teresitas lookout.
TIP: The beach, which is also popular with locals, can be crowded on weekends, so it is worth visiting on weekdays.
Garachico - Architectural heritage and natural pool
This small town in the north of the island was once the first and most important port of the island until it was destroyed by a volcanic eruption in 1706. The town has been rebuilt and is now more beautiful than ever, one of the most popular destinations in Tenerife. In addition to numerous historical monuments ( Roque de Garachico, Ermita San Roque), there is a civar museum and several internationally renowned Tenerife restaurants. Its old town is rightfully included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, which was awarded an architectural gold medal. Garachico is also famous for its natural ocean lava pools, which were formed by the flow of lava that fell. The Piscinas naturales El Caletón are the most popular bathing spot for the area and tourists visiting the area, an unmissable, wonderful, “no words” experience!

Anaga –The untouched laurel forest
The Macizo de Anaga mountain range in the northeast of the island is known for its undisturbed, lush green forests, deep gorges and unique flora. The Anaga Rural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a world- famous hiking destination for nature lovers, as it offers scenic routes that can be found in only a few places on earth. The area is classified as a biosphere reserve due to its natural values. You can also see the laurel forests here in Madeira, the Azores, or Cape Verde. The route from the Cruz del Carmen visitor center to Taganana on the coast is one of the most popular, because here you can end the day with a swim in the ocean at the end of the trip.

San Cristobal de La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Many people say that La Laguna is the most beautiful city in Tenerife, so it would be a bigger sin to miss a visit than Santa Cruz, the capital, which was built alongside it. La Laguna is the pride of Tenerife, its first capital with historical monuments, churches, original Spanish architecture, and a Latin American atmosphere. The stunning location has deservedly become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The unmissable sights of the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife are the Parque Marítimo César Manrique, the Auditorium, and its most popular event is the Carnival, which is held every February.
TIP: If you want to book during the carnival, think several months in advance!


Puerto de la Cruz, the city of the cross
The center of the north coast, the oldest tourist paradise in the Canary Islands, Agatha Christie's favorite vacation spot. The weather here is wetter than in the south, so the vegetation is richer and greener. dotted with banana plantations. Its history dates back to the beginning of the 16th century, when the first seaport and church belonging to La Orotava were built and the originally small fishing village became the most important city on the island, when a volcanic eruption in 1706 destroyed Garachico. Here you can find one of the oldest botanical parks in the world, Parque Taoro, as well as Playa Jardin and Lagos Martianez beach and leisure center.

La Oratava – The House of Balconies
Where history comes alive! This town in the north of Tenerife is one of the oldest in the Canary Islands. It was founded in the early 16th century after the Spanish conquest. It still has a rich heritage with its architecture, gardens and traditions. The town takes its name from the vast Taoro Valley, which it shares with two other towns, Los Realejos and Puerto de la Cruz. Here you will find the famous Casa de Los Balcones, the House of Balconies. The town is also known for its religious festivals, astronomy and Lord's Day celebrations.
TIP: Have lunch in one of the traditional Canarian restaurants with balconies. Find it at the top of the Tripadvisor lists!


Lighthouse at the end of the world
Punta de Teno is a must-see attraction and a particularly romantic spot in Tenerife. This lighthouse is the most beautiful and the second oldest of the 7 lighthouses in Tenerife. It is located on the westernmost tip of the island, from where you can enjoy a stunning view of the Los Gigantes cliffs and the surrounding coastline. If we had to describe it in words, we could use the words special, lonely, isolated, remote, end of the world. The 20-meter- high, cylindrical tower with white and red stripes proudly rises above the ocean, and the surrounding wild and romantic coastlines invite you to swim. If you are here, be sure to visit the village of Buenavista Norte! TIP: It is a nature reserve, on a road section closed by a barrier, accessible by car during limited periods, use the local bus services.
Alcala
A typical small town in Tenerife, connected to Los Gigantes by a charming coastal promenade. Its gray pebble beach is located next to a pier full of fishing boats. You can walk along the picturesque path along sandy coves and natural ocean pools and swim, sunbathe or sit on a bench and admire the huge waves on Playa de Jaquita beach. It is worth spending a whole day in this charming place if you want peace and relaxation a little further away from the bustling tourist areas of the island. The underwater world in Alcalá is also wonderful. You can meet turtles and various schools of fish here, and the dive site, known for its lava reefs, is recommended for experienced divers. The area has a cozy fish and traditionalThere is no shortage of restaurants offering delicious food, from which you can admire the panorama of La Gomera. TIP: Alcala is a 5-minute drive from our apartment. Less well-known, never crowded!
